How do I become accredited?
To become any type of accredited energy assessor with Quidos, there are two routes available. The route you take depends on your current level of experience.
Route 1: Qualification
This is the route to take if you are currently training to become an energy assessor, or if you are already qualified as a DEA, NDEA, PBEA or ACSEA.
On all Quidos training courses, as long as you pass all relevant exams and portfolio submissions, the accreditation process is part of the course fees and arrangements.
If you are already qualified as an energy assessor, simply apply to join our accreditation scheme by clicking on the ‘Apply for Accreditation now' tab on the right hand side of the page. We will then check your credentials to ensure you meet our standards, and then welcome you to the Quidos network.
Route 2: Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
The APEL route is designed to allow experienced practitioners within similar industries to gain accreditation in energy assessment without going through the normal training process. In order to obtain accreditation through the APEL route, applicants must show that they can satisfy all the Performance Criteria/ Knowledge & Understanding items contained in the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for energy assessors.
Quidos offers the APEL route to candidates wishing to become non-domestic energy assessors (NDEA) and air-conditioning energy assessors (ACSEA).
The Quidos APEL route follows the guidelines put forward by the Communities and Local Government department (CLG).
The Process
The process of following the APEL route begins with an initial discussion between Quidos and the candidate to assess whether this is the appropriate route to take. There are then 5 simple stages to move through:
-
The candidate submits their CV and completes an APEL application form and a Quidos skills audit form (see more information on these forms below)
-
The application and evidence are cross-referenced with the National Occupational Standards.
-
If all experience and existing qualifications equate with the NOS, provisional accreditation is granted.
-
Level 3 and 4 candidates submit three ‘live' jobs, which are assessed against the NOS. Level 5 candidates submit five ‘live' jobs, which are assessed against the NOS.
-
If successful, full accreditation is granted.
