CPD Guidelines

All professionals require regular training and development in order to remain fully informed of current happenings in the industry and to keep up to date with changes in legislation and technology. In the rapidly expanding field of energy management, it is now more crucial than ever to ensure that you are up to date with new developments in the industry.

How much CPD does Quidos ask for?

The Quidos Accreditation Scheme requires all members to undergo a minimum of 10 hours of CPD every year. Quidos views CPD for energy assessors as follows:

"Continuous Professional Development is a commitment to being professional, keeping up to date, and continuously seeking to improve your capabilities as an energy assessor".

We require all CPD to be fully targeted towards your chosen field of energy assessment. This means that a 2-day course in web-design, for example, cannot be counted towards your CPD. However, we do also understand that in this difficult climate, everybody can benefit from training in some business/professional skills. Therefore, we will accept some forms of this training towards CPD.

All energy assessors who are transferring their accreditation to Quidos will need to ensure that they can demonstrate up to date knowledge of developments in the industry.  Having an up to date CPD record will certainly help the application process.

CPD can include any of the following activities:

  • Attendance at relevant seminar day and conferences
  • Attendance at relevant exhibitions
  • Self-directed or informal learning (e.g. reading professional journals and taking notes)
  • Any other energy assessor course (e.g. you may undertake NDEA training if you are a DEA)
  • Any other relevant professional or vocational training courses, whether or not they lead to a formal qualification (e.g. Builder services training)
  • Learning from other related industry professionals (e.g. job shadowing of builders)

Approved Reading Material for CPD

To view a detailed list of reading material that has been approved by Quidos for CPD purposes, please click here.

Additional material can also be found on the ABBE website,  which has reading lists for all the courses it offers.

If you study other reading material, please contact the accreditation team to ensure it will be approved as suitable for CPD.

How do I plan and record my CPD?

It is recommended that energy assessors plan their future learning by assessing their own skills and knowledge and identifying any areas for improvement. Suitable opportunities to improve these areas can then be identified.

Quidos has created individual CPD logs, on which its accredited members can record their CPD activities. These can be downloaded HERE and updated whenever you have taken part in a CPD activity.

Does Quidos provide any CPD?

As a service to its members, Quidos plans and organises targeted CPD events for domestic and non-domestic energy assessors.  These take the form of seminar days, where industry professionals give presentations on their field of expertise. The topics we have recently provided presentations on include solar thermal energy, photovoltaics, small-scale wind generation, air and ground source heat pumps, specialist software applications, new sealant technologies, voltage optimisation and lots more!

In the near future we are hoping to develop a form of online CPD for our members. We will inform you when this service becomes available.
