About the Qualification

The ABBE qualification is designed to include both an introductory classroom based introduction and also distance learning aspects.

The initial four day training period will include both practical and theoretical aspects.  This will give you a comprehensive introduction into the types of systems you will be looking at aswell as practical experience on carrying out the assessment.

You will also receive the only training currently available on the AIRS software. At present this is the ONLY government approved softwaresolution for air conditioning energy assessments. To find out more about the AIRS software please click here.

Diploma Structure

The initial introduction training is run over four consecutive days.

The content covered includes:

  • Unitary packaged systems - indoor and outdoor equipment housed in a single casing
  • Single split packaged systems - outdoor unit to single indoor unit
  • Multi split packaged systems - outdoor unit directly to multiple indoor units
  • Simple Variable Refrigerant flow (VRG) systems - outdoor unit to multiple indoor units via a manifold
  • Indoor units - including floor, wall and ceiling mounted units, linked to outdoor units by refrigerant pipework.
  • Controls - including self contained on-board controls for temperature and time

Following this training period, the distance-learning elements of the training are incorporated within two forms of assessment.

These require you to:

  •  Pass an exam based on the course syllabus. The exam consists of multiple choice questions and requires a score of 70% to pass.
  •  Submit a portfolio of three Air Conditioning Reports on a range of existing commercial properties (ACRs).

Candidates will be required to produce each one of these ACRs up tocurrent industry standard.

In order to assist you in the revision for your exam and the completion of your portfolio, you will be allocated an assessor who will provide you with guided learning advice and assistance on all the technical issues you will come across during the completion of your diploma.
