Quidos Domestic Energy Assessor Training

What we are offering:

Comprehensive training to qualify as a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA), we will provide you with all the education, training, and materials required to gain your Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment.

The Diploma is issued by ABBE www.abbeqa.co.uk which is one of the 3 authorised qualification awarding bodies. The Diploma is a Level 3 VRQ.

Diploma structure:

This course is run on five successive days, with a further half day required typically four to five weeks after this.

All training sessions are held at our facilities in Bath, Somerset, although we do offer bespoke training packages which allow us to deliver training to clients on site, where there is sufficient demand (minimum 10 candidates).

This is a fairly intensive course and is designed to be run over five consecutive days, culminating at the end of five weeks with a written exam and completed portfolio.

You will be provided with all the required training materials, and the 5 days will be a mixture of classroom and on-site training. There is some home learning to be done with the on-going support of your assessor; however the amount of time required is completely dependant on the individual.

The majority of the course consists of classroom based training, supplemented by reading materials, on-site guidance and remote assessment.

There are 2 requirements to obtaining your Diploma:

  • Passing a multiple choice exam of 20 questions. You need to obtain a pass rate of 14 out of the 20 - 70%.

 

  • Submitting a portfolio. Candidates will have to produce a minimum of five Energy Performance Certificates to the current RdSAP standard, as well as providing evidence on a variety of professional competency based subjects. This will be compiled during the training days and at home.

What entry qualifications required?

The course is open access and you do not need any specific qualifications. However, we have designed the course to suit people with the following characteristics:

  • Well motivated, enthusiastic self learners who are able to direct their own study programme;
  • Literate and numerate people able to cope with a level of study equivalent to ‘A’ level standard.
  • Able to commit sufficient time to build up the necessary knowledge in a relatively short space of time. For new entrants we estimate a minimum of 80 hours over a 2-3 month period.

Training Timetable
There are various start dates, but the course layout will be as follows.

Day 1: Floor plan training
AM:        Introduction to RICS floor plans. Candidates will be introduced to the techniques and requirements of drawing basic floor plans.
PM:             An accompanied Visit to a sample property to create a floor plan.

Day 2: Floor plan training
AM:             Advanced RICS floorplans. Final training for floorplan sketching
PM:             An accompanied visit to a sample property to create floor plan.

Day 3: RDSAP Training
AM:             The construction of residential properties and heating systems
PM:             Property Inspection and data collection, including practical aspects of property inspection and data collection.

Day 4: RDSAP Training
AM:             Introduction to EPCs and data collection on site
PM:             Virtual Survey, a guided exercise where you collect data and fill in the field survey sheets prior to site visit on day 5
                    

Day 5: RDSAP Training
AM:             Site visit, to include all aspects of producing an EPC
PM:             A demonstration of the software used to produce EPCs.
                     Discussion of preparing portfolio for assessment including online portfolio system.

You will be introduced to your assessor and with remote guidance, and required to produce four EPCs before day 6.

Day 6: Exam
AM:             ABBE 20q RdSAP Exam.

After the Diploma

Once you have obtained your Diploma you will still not be ready to trade as a Domestic Energy Assessor.

You will be required to be licensed by a government approved accreditation scheme. At present there are 8 of these in England & Wales. Quidos is one.

To become an accredited DEA with Quidos will cost £125 exc. VAT and includes, software, PI and PL insurance for a 12 month period.

Once you are accredited, there is a lodgement fee to be paid per completed EPC, which is at present around £9.

How much will it cost, and what does it include?

The fee for the course is £2,495.00  (inc. VAT) 

This includes:

  • All training, including lunch and refreshments.
  • All training materials & software.
  • Awarding body registration fees
  • Exam at registered exam centre (two attempts included in fee)
  • Portfolio folder, Floor plan and RdSAP Training manuals
  • Clipboard, Stationary, Graph paper etc…

Not included:

  • Travel or accommodation – although our facilities are very close to Bath Spa train station, and there are a large numbers of hotels and guesthouses in the city.
  • Additional equipment: camera, calculator, and ladder.
